Caring for Your Memorial Jewellery

Your memorial jewellery is far more than an accessory – it is a precious keepsake, handcrafted to hold the memories of someone or something you love. We understand just how important your jewellery is, and every piece is created with the intention of being treasured for many years to come.

Our keepsakes are handcrafted using high-quality jewellery resin and are available in a range of premium materials, including 925 Sterling Silver, Stainless Steel, Titanium and Tungsten. While these materials are chosen for their quality and durability, all jewellery requires care to keep it looking its very best.

Everyday Care 

By following the guidance below, you can help protect your jewellery and enjoy wearing it for years to come.

Remove your jewellery when cleaning

Household cleaning products contain chemicals that can damage the finish of both the metal and resin. Rings can also become scratched or bent during household tasks, so we recommend removing your jewellery before cleaning.

Remove before showering or bathing

Shampoos, shower gels, soaps and bath products can gradually affect the finish of your jewellery. Although occasional contact with clean water is not harmful, regular exposure to soaps and bathing products should be avoided.

Avoid excessive heat and UV exposure

Extended exposure to strong sunlight or excessive heat can affect jewellery resin over time. We also recommend removing rings before using UV or LED nail lamps, as repeated exposure may damage the resin.

Remove before swimming

Swimming pools contain chlorine, while seawater contains salt, both of which may damage the finish of your jewellery and affect the resin. Always remove your jewellery before swimming or using hot tubs.

Apply products before putting on your jewellery

Perfumes, aftershaves, cosmetics, hairspray, lotions and hand sanitisers all contain ingredients that may affect the finish of your jewellery. Allow these products to dry completely before wearing your keepsake.

Protect from knocks and impacts

Although your jewellery is made to be worn and enjoyed, it should be treated with care. Avoid dropping your jewellery or knocking it against hard surfaces, as impacts can scratch the metal, damage the resin or affect stone settings.

Resin Care

Your keepsake has been handcrafted using premium jewellery resin designed for everyday wear.

Whilst highly durable, resin should be protected from:

  • Excessive heat
  • Prolonged direct sunlight
  • Harsh chemicals
  • Repeated or prolonged water exposure

In very rare circumstances, resin may soften slightly or begin to lift from its setting over time. If this happens, please don't worry—simply contact us. We'll be happy to inspect your jewellery and discuss the available repair options.

Sterling Silver Care

Sterling Silver is a precious metal and naturally tarnishes over time. Tarnishing is a normal chemical reaction between the silver and substances found in the air, moisture, sulphur, cosmetics, perfumes and even natural skin oils.

This is completely normal and is not a manufacturing fault.

If your sterling silver begins to darken, simply clean it using the polishing cloth provided or wash it gently with warm water and mild soap before polishing dry.

Please do not use silver dip, chemical cleaners or harsh polishing products, as these may damage the resin within your keepsake.

Cleaning Your Jewellery

Every order includes a complimentary jewellery polishing cloth.

To keep your jewellery looking its best:

  • Gently polish with the cloth provided after wearing.

  • For a deeper clean, wash using warm water and a small amount of mild soap.

  • Rinse thoroughly and dry completely using a soft, lint-free cloth before polishing.

Please avoid:

  • Household cleaning products

  • Abrasive cloths or brushes

  • Silver dips or chemical jewellery cleaners

  • Ultrasonic cleaning machines

These products may damage the jewellery resin and are not recommended for memorial jewellery.

Why has my silver turned black?

Many people worry when their sterling silver jewellery turns black, but this is simply tarnishing.

Tarnish can be caused by:

  • Air and humidity
  • Sweat and natural body oils
  • Perfumes and lotions
  • Household chemicals
  • Pollution
  • Individual skin chemistry

In fact, genuine 925 Sterling Silver naturally tarnishes, whereas imitation silver often peels or loses its plating instead.

The good news is that tarnish only affects the surface and can usually be removed with gentle cleaning.

 

Your Complimentary Anti-Tarnish Tab

If you've ordered sterling silver jewellery, you'll receive a complimentary anti-tarnish tab (the small black square inside a clear pouch).

To use it:

  1. Remove the tab from the plastic pouch.
  2. Place it inside your jewellery box alongside your jewellery.
  3. Replace it periodically as it becomes less effective.

The anti-tarnish tab absorbs airborne pollutants that cause silver to tarnish, helping to slow the natural tarnishing process while your jewellery is being stored.

Although it cannot prevent tarnishing completely, it can significantly reduce it and help keep your jewellery looking its best.

 

Storing Your Jewellery

When you're not wearing your keepsake, store it in the presentation box provided.

For best results:

  • Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid damp or humid environments.
  • Do not store jewellery in bathrooms.
  • Keep pieces separate where possible to prevent scratching.

Proper storage will help protect both the metal and resin and minimise tarnishing of sterling silver.
